the blooming of spring is so sweet, the relief that we have been promised ever since the wheel turned into winter. the earth is gently waking up, yawning and stretching her hands and feet out like a cat stretching in the morning sunlight that dapples across the tile floor.
it’s not like the descent into the wild cold of late fall and winter. spring is like waking up after sleeping in, just a little bit, to see that a lover has opened your bedroom window, or maybe you fell asleep looking at the moon and stars. it feels like a honey latte with lavender or hot mint tea that you drink while journaling on your sofa, the window cracked, the air still chilled, but in a refreshing way, not a way that chills your bones.
spring is a kiss on the cheek by a first date or a best friend. it’s crisp white wine that lingers with notes berries. it’s peach pie that your neighbor dropped off that you eat under a blanket as you rewatch Kiki’s Delivery Service. it’s the palette cleansing book that you pick after a heavy or dense read.
sping is good morning beautiful, and plants on display at Home Depot, and sharing popcorn at the movie theater, and picking out flowers at Trader Joes, and asking if your coworker wants to get a drink after work, and working on the crossword puzzle at a cafe, and notes written on scraps of paper that never really quite make sense later, and it’s a fresh manicure, and it’s the fragile crack of the window as you let the outside air in.
spring is for starting fresh. it’s for writing love poems, and for sending them, too. it’s for realizing that you’re falling in love. it’s for being content alone.
spring is for hoping.
spring is for dreaming.
