letters to romanticizing life
Fall in love again and again
Winding roads, doing manual drive
Early nights in white sheets with lace curtains
Capri in the distance
In a place that can make you change
Fall in love again and again
Early nights in white sheets with lace curtains
Capri in the distance
In a place that can make you change
Fall in lo-o-o-o-o-o
Everything is
Romantic
— Everything is romantic, Charlie xcx
life is hard. so enjoy the beautiful things.
things that are romantic:
waking up with sunlight on your face
adding your favorite creamer into your coffee, that you made, just the way you like it
having a favorite creamer (mine is Trader Joe’s brown sugar oat milk creamer)
the very fact of having a favorite way of making coffee
cold air but warm sheets
a fresh haircut and the way you feel so much lighter afterward
taking the train - anywhere, any train
jazz in the background
instrumental covers of pop songs on a restaurant’s speaker
a server at dinner that you think was maybe flirting with you, and you don’t even really need to know, it was just fun to feel admired
holding someone’s hand as you leave dinner
when the cute server asks if you have room for dessert, and you look at the person across from you, and instead of saying no, like you usually do, you both smile and say yes
a barista at your favorite coffee shop knowing your name
a barista at your favorite coffee shop knowing your order and asking if you want “the usual”
having a favorite coffee shop
lighting a candle and setting it on your desk before you write
sealing an envelope with a birthday card inside
picking out the perfect stamp for your card when you’re at the post office, and thinking i bet they’ll like this one
riding in a friend’s car, listening to their normal, car driving playlist and realizing it’s so different from yours, but not in a bad way, just in the way that makes you remember you are different people
when you see someone do their little routines at their own home
leaving the library with a stack of books, then eagerly reading the covers over and over again in the car
a gentle breeze on your face
the smell of someone else’s shampoo as they hug you
unboxing an unopened perfume
personalized planners and notebooks
people who bite their pens absently while thinking
seeing someone walk their dog in public
walking your own dogs
outdoor porch or patio lighting
white wine on a patio
a record player that makes a new album sound vintage
playing your parent’s old cassette tapes
trying on your mother’s old ring, and wondering how her fingers were so small
the way people cross the street together after waiting
nervous giggles in a packed elevator
a potluck
burning a letter you never wanted to send in the first place
a voice memo from your best friend
i got you a little gift when they went to something you couldn’t go to, because they missed you and wanted you there
giving someone flowers after a performance
picking out a dress for a night out
two women doing their makeup together before they leave the house
thrifting the perfect sweater
chocolate croissants
flowers at a farmer’s market
colored pens
cinnamon rolls
decorating to host a party
cleaning up cups at said party with the one friend that always stays to help you clean up after
when someone else makes you breakfast
ordering “pancakes for the table”
reading a magazine
just one drunk cigarette
watching sex and the city for the third time
meeting a stranger at the dog park
meeting a dog at the dog park (even better)
trying on lipstick at Ulta with those disposable things and having a sales person tell you it’s your color
saying surprise me to your hairdresser
tan lines
lavender lemonade
painting outside
listening to an audiobook while doing a puzzle
when someone sends you an article because they thought of you
the grocery store in the early morning
the freeway in the early morning
really, most things in the early morning
getting a postcard
living life to the fullest, even on a random Wednesday
letters to spring
the blooming of spring is so sweet, the relief that we have been promised ever since the wheel turned into winter. the earth is gently waking up, yawning and stretching her hands and feet out like a cat stretching in the morning sunlight that dapples across the tile floor.
